19/07/2011 Currie claims Champion of Brands after epic Indy circuit battle, driving GT Motorsport's Van Diemen RF91

Craig Currie brought the first day of action from the MSVR Indy Weekend to an end by coming through an epic race to become the latest winner of the Champion of Brands.

Currie left it late to secure the win as he snatched the victory from Adam Quartermaine on the final lap of a thrilling Champion of Brands Formula Ford race.

Pole man Austin Kimberly made a slow getaway and he found himself pushed out to third at Paddock Hill Bend, allowing Quartermaine to lead from Jonathan Hoad. An incident involving three cars brought out the safety car, but the race resumed in frantic fashion on the restart, with Hoad grabbing the lead with a clever switchback move around Quartermaine.

Currie, who was in third place, then took the lead with an impressive move past Hoad and Quartermaine, with a quarter of the race remaining. He was unable to maintain his advantage, as Quartermaine surged back into the lead with two laps remaining.

Heading into the final lap, the top five were split by just over half a second and the victory was far from certain. However, it was eventually decided when Currie found a way through to the lead on the final lap, crossing the finish line ahead of Quartermaine and Hoad.

09/06/2011Skinner makes Champion of Brands history at Brands Hatch GP driving Mike Gardners GT Motorsport Van Diemen RF91

Jordan Skinner became the first two-time winner of the Champion of Brands after producing a lights-to-flag victory at Brands Hatch.

Skinner dominated qualifying and secured pole position after posting a time of 1.36.809 seconds which was 0.358 seconds faster than second placed Cormac O'Neill. British Formula Ford racer Nick McBride was third fastest, driving his Spectrum, and Josh Barnett, who was hoping to become the first CoB two-time winner, lined up in fourth.

However, the Australian driver was rarely threatened throughout the race after making a strong getaway from pole position. Fellow countryman Nick McBride did his best to try and find a way past Skinner, but in the end, he had to settle for second spot.

The highlight of the race was an intense battle for the final podium position, which involved title holder Josh Barnett, Cormac O'Neill and Jonathan Hoad. The trio swapped places on several occasions, but it was O'Neill, who clinched a podium result, finishing 0.020 seconds in front of Barnett.
